Fewer Granted Asylum

Published måndag 16 juni 2008 kl 11.45

Sweden has been much more restrictive when it comes to granting asylum to refugees from Iraq and Somalia in 2008, compared with last year.

Only 32% of Iraqis got asylum in the first 5 months of 2008. 72% got it last year. The main reason for the harder line by the immigration authorities is that it does not consider there to be traditional armed conflicts in Iraq or Somalia, one of the main criteria for being granted asylum here.
