Food Prices Not Scaring Swedish Consumers

Published måndag 16 juni 2008 kl 12.01

Although food prices are rising, Swedish supermarkets say they haven’t noticed any major changes in consumers purchase patterns.

The biggest change has been a slight slowdown in sales of beef, with customers put off both by the higher prices, but also by the meat’s environmental impact, according to Staffan Ekengren from the supermarket chain ICA. Other than that Swedish households seem to continue to want to eat well, even though the shopping basket costs more than it did a year ago, he says, with ecological and locally produced food especially popular.
