Tolgfors Wants to Make Defense More Effective

Published måndag 18 augusti 2008 kl 10.43
Defence Minister Sten Tolgfors

Minister of Defense Sten Tolgfors wants to make Sweden’s military forces more effective and faster.

In a signed article in daily Svenska Dagbladet Tolgfors maintained that the recent conflict between Russia and Georgia has shown that the armed forces have to be able to react fast.

But according to Tolgfors the mobilization of the Swedish military in a similar conflict could take up to one year. Therefore the Minister of Defense pledges to unite several units of the Swedish forces – attempting to make them more effective.

Tolgfors also used the latest war in the Caucasus to justify the government’s highly criticized bugging law. Countries like Russia needed to be monitored ceaselessly, Tolgfors wrote.
