Sweden Protests Against Russian Military Action

Published tisdag 19 augusti 2008 kl 10.46
Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt

Sweden has decided to cancel all military co-operation with Russia, in protest at the country’s actions in Georgia.

The decision by the Swedish government is supported by all 7 parties in the Swedish parliament and means that all military exchanges and visits by Swedish officers to Russia, and by Russian officers to Sweden have been scrapped.

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt harshly criticised the Russian offensive in the Caucasus, saying that Sweden reacts very strongly against the use of violence and aggression in the region, and the fact that Russia has continued to destroy Georgian infrastructure.
