Swedish Wrestler Turns to International Court

Published onsdag 20 augusti 2008 kl 10.18

The Swedish Olympic Committee and Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian have turned to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to investigate the Swede’s controversial semi-final at the Beijing Olympics.

Abrahamian was so upset with what he called a biased decision against him that he later dropped his bronze medal in protest, and eventually had it stripped by the International Olympic Committee.

The CAS says it will hold a hearing on the issue on Friday.

The wrestler and the Swedish Olympic Committee want the CAS to determine whether the International Wrestling Federation was wrong to deny their request to change the result of the match and sanction the officials in the bout. They are not seeking any change in the medal rankings.
