Lagerbäck Pleased With New Offensive System
Sweden’s first match since their disappointing Euro 2008 campaign ended in a 3-2 defeat against France in a friendly in Gothenburg.
The game was staged as part of the celebrations marking the fiftieth anniversary of the 1958 World Cup staged in Sweden, but in practice was very much a rebuilding exercise ahead of next month’s back to back opening World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Hungary.
Coach Lars Lagerbäck was pleased with a new 3-5-2 playing system on the night, designed to create more scoring opportunities.
”We have now seen the system in practice and we’ll look at it and see whether we use it in our upcoming World Cup matches.”
Veteran striker Henrik Larsson and Kim Källström scored for the Swedes.
