25 years and still going strong

Sweden’s biggest sports event for women, known as ”Tjejmilen” celebrated it’s 25th anniversary on Sunday with almost 25,000 women of all ages and talents and from all parts of the country taking part.

The ten kilometre race , a Swedish mile, is run around gärdet and the picturesque park of djurgården in the heart of Stockholm, and was won by a Swede, Lisa Blommés Norden, in a time of 33 minutes 58 seconds. Norden had won the 5,000 metres event at the Finnkampen the night before.

The majority of runners though aren’t professional and run for fun and to test themselves. The start times are staggered and grouped in accordance with ability. One 83 year old runner, was enjoying the race for the sixteenth time, and finished in two hours and 30 minutes
