Social Democrats Want “Straighter" Refugee Laws

Published torsdag 4 september 2008 kl 12.17
Veronica Palm, Social Democratic spokesperson for migration issues

The biggest opposition party, the Social Democrats, demand clearer and tighter refugee legislation.

In a signed article in daily Dagens Nyheter Veronica Palm, the party’s spokesperson for migration issues, argues that refugees should be deprived of their right to settle wherever they wish in this country. At the same time, municipalities which take in refugees should receive a certain bonus by the state.

The current legislation, leaving the settlement to the refugees and the municipalities that accept them, merely leads to segregation, Palm added - indirectly criticizing her own party’s previous migration policy.
