New Proposal Says Sick Should Work at Least Once a Week

Published måndag 8 september 2008 kl 12.59

The Social Democrats want to tighten rules for those on the sick-list in order to get them back into work.

According to Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet the party are calling for everyone, including those with long term illnesses and those receiving disability benefits, to take part in some sort of work at least once a week.

A spokesperson for the party says it will be people’s own choice to take part in the system.

At the same time the party also aim to increase pressure on businesses to make an active effort in getting those on the edges of the employment market into work.
