Petrol Pushes Out Eco-Fuel

Filling up with ethanol-based E85 at a Statoil station

As petrol prices fall, sales of ethanol fuel has almost halved.

Global oil prices have lowered and Swedish petrol companies have now cut prices to 1.24 USD per litre.

Petrol hasn’t been this cheap since February 2005.

The Norwegian company Statoil, which runs many of the petrol station in Sweden reports a 47 percent fall in sales of E85, the main ethanol based fuel for the so called eco-cars.

Sweden is one of the main industrialised countries to use ethanol fuel and this has been supported by laws and tax cuts by the past governments.
