New Hope for Prostate Cancer Sufferers

Published tisdag 16 december 2008 kl 10.29

A new study from Sweden and Norway says different treatment could double survival rates for prostate cancer.

The study looked at men with advanced prostate cancer and says they are best treated with a combination of hormones and localised radiotherapy.

Anders Widmark of Umeå University in the far north of Sweden is one of the main researchers.

He says that traditionally men over 70 are not given radiation treatment, only hormones, but that this shows they may benefit from it.

In the group given only hormones 79 died whereas of those given a combination of hormone and radiation therapy only 37 died.
