No extra tax on lead ammo

Published fredag 19 december 2008 kl 12.38
Contains lead pellets - shotgun shell

There will be no special tax for firearms ammunition containing lead. Environment minister Andreas Carlgren said in Stockholm, plans for an extra tax were abandoned after an agreement was reached with the Swedish Hunters’ Association.

Hunters and sports shooters would be committed to drastically reduce the use of lead ammunition.

For years critics have demanded to prohibit shotgun ammunition consisting of lead pellets that are often eaten by birds, causing painful poisoning death.

Referring to that, Carlgren said that the hunters’ association had promised to gradually introduce shotgun shells with plastic pellets.
