New Face for Swedish Literature

Published måndag 22 december 2008 kl 11.29
Peter Englund, the new Secretary of the Swedish Academy

’I’m yearning to be arrogant and sarcastic’ says Horace Engdahl, who’s returning to literary life after stepping down as the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy.

The Academy is Sweden’s highest literary body and chooses the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Historian and author Peter Englund will now take over the job.

And writing in a debate article in Swedish tabloid Expressen, radio journalist Gert Fylking has said that he hopes the Nobel Literature prize event will become Sweden’s equivalent of Oscar Night, now that the ’party pooper’ Horace Engdahl has gone.
