Published onsdag 14 januari 2009 kl 11.08

Scandinavian airline SAS could be taken over by French airline AIR France-KLM.

That’s according to French newspaper La Tribune which reports that SAS has begun ”an informal consultation process” with the French airline.

Both companies declined to comment on the report.

Earlier this week, Air France-KLM announced that it had bought a 25 percent stake in the Italian carrier ALitalia.

In September, the Reuters newsagency reported that German ailrine Lufthansa was in talks to buy SAS, which has struggled in recent years and has long been tipped as a takeover target.

In December, it signed a deal to sell a majority stake in its loss-making Spanair unit, while earlier this week , SAS posted a 12.5 percent year-on-year fall in December passenger traffic.
