MTR to take over Stockholm Metro
Hong Kong based company MTR have won the bid to operate Stockholm’s metro system. After much speculation Stockholm Public Transport revealed the new contractor for the underground services on Tuesday afternoon.
MTR will run the underground for the next eight years, with a possible extension for another six, according to the Stockholm Public Transport website. The company had submitted the best bid from a quality perspective, and that was the decisive point in the choice, according to SL managing director Ingemar Ziegler. The contract will come in to effect on 2 November this year.
MTR takes over from French company Veolia Transport, which was belived to be the main competitor in the bid for the new contract.
