Icy Roads Warning for Sweden

Published onsdag 21 januari 2009 kl 11.36

Sweden has been dealing with extremely slippery roads since Tuesday’s weather caused icy road conditions. Tuesday afternoon, as many as 15 accidents were reported in Skåne, in the south of Sweden, over a few hours.

Over Tuesday afternoon the ice spread north and late in the evening conditions seems to have been worst in the Stockholm area and on the island of Gotland, on the east coast.

An icy roads warning for Wednesday has been issued for many parts of the country. The eastern coast seems initially to be mostly affected, with conditions worsening and spreading over to the west coast during the course of the day. The Swedish Road Administration has had most of the major roads salted, but smaller roads may still be treacherous.
