Swedish Amnesty has welcomed news that Guantanamo will close within a year. They say in a press release that US president Barack Obama has sent a clear message to the world that he aims to change policy in the fight against terrorism.

At the same time as signing the order for the closure of Guantanamo, the new president also signed one to put a stop to abusive interrogation methods, stating that prisoners must be treated according to the stipulations of the Geneva Convention. Respect for human rights and a state governed by law does not have to be a hindrance to a national security, according to Swedish Amnesty.
