Falling Sales

Volvo Appeals for Government Subsidies, Benefits

Published onsdag 28 januari 2009 kl 10.34

The Swedish head of the American-owned Swedish Volvo Cars is appealing directly to the center-right government here to help boost automobile sales – which have fallen by 45 to 50 %.

The company boss wants the Swedish government to re-instate the bonus paid to those getting rid of their old cars and the special subsidy given to those buying environmentally-friendly cars.

He claims that the fall in car sales in Sweden is the biggest in Europe.

Meanwhile, news reports claim that the Americans are once again looking for a new buyer to take over Volvo, and that the purchase 10 years ago benefited neither the Americans or the Swedes.
