Congolese Doctor Wins Olof Palme Prize

Published fredag 30 januari 2009 kl 14.11

Today in Stockholm, a prestigious prize handed out in the name of the murdered Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme is being awarded to a Congolese gynocologist. His name is Dr Denis Mukwege.

In his Panzi Hospital in the conflict-ridden Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo Dr. Mukwege treats women who have fallen victim to mass rapes and other forms of sexual violence, work which also means dangers for his own life.
