Security Company Face Abuse Allegations in Peru

Published tisdag 10 februari 2009 kl 18.10

A company owned by the multinational Swedish security giant Securitas is facing investigation in Peru following allegations of abuse of the local population.

Forza Security Services, bought by Securitas in 2007, was active in Peru in connection with surveillance of the mining industry.  Last month a Peruvian human rights organisation published pictures of captured anti-mining demonstrators which indicate torture and abuse. In one of the photos a Forza officer was clearly visible. According to Swedish News Agency TT, the Peruvian Congress is to launch an investigation into crimes committed by Police and Security organisations in the country.

Securitas have not yet issued a statement regarding the allegations.
