The Majority of Swedes Positive to Nuclear Power

Six out of ten Swedes are in favour of building new nuclear power plants to replace the old. Among both right and left wing voters most are in favour of the government’s new energy policy, according to a survey carried out by market research agency Synovate and published in Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

Only among the Greens and the Left party the majority were against building new reactors. Among the Social Democrats the number in favour of the scheme was 57%. Voters for the Moderate party were the most enthusiastic supporters with 84% in favour. Within the Centre Party voters, traditionally against nuclear power, the number in favour was 64 %.

The survey was carried out between 5 and 11 of February and 1016 participants took part.
