Match Against Israel To Go Ahead In Malmö

Published tisdag 24 februari 2009 kl 11.05
Malmö City Council making its decision to hold Sweden's Davis Cup Tie behind closed doors.

The planned Davis Cup tennis match between Sweden and Israel will take place in Malmö in front of empty stands as previously planned, despite the fact that Stockholm wanted to host the event instead, and with an audience.

The decision by Stockholm city to take over the controversial event came too late according to town officials, and they wouldn’t have time to make the necessary arrangements. The match is due to be played next week, and has become controversial as organisers fear demonstrations against the recent conflict in the Gaza Strip.
