Spotify under Hacker Attack

Published torsdag 5 mars 2009 kl 13.51

The Swedish music website Spotify has been hacked. The site’s million users all over the world are now being told in an e-mail to change their passwords.

Last week site managers realised that they had been hacked.

“We were alerted to a group that managed to compromise our protocols. After investigating we concluded that this group had gained access to information that could allow testing of a
very large number of passwords,” the e-mail reads.

In December last year a bug was found in the system. As it was quickly dealt with, they were long unaware that anyone had gained access to the confidential information.
Along with encrypted passwords, personal details might have been taken. Credit card numbers are not stored by Spotify and are therefore believed not to be at risk.
