The world’s largest arm wrestling competition for women was held in Gothenburg this weekend. Around 50 women from all over the world competed in the contest held on International Women’s day.

The overall winner, Russian arm wrestler Irina Makeva beat her Lithuanian competitor Egle Valtkute, who had to be satisfied with the silver medal.

The third and fourth places went to Swedes. Malin Kleinsmith of Stockholm took the bronze and Heidi Andersson from the north of Sweden came in fourth in the overall contest, after winning her own weight class, 65 kilograms, according to Swedish news agency TT.

The World Challenge competition was held for the first time this year but organisers are hoping it will become a yearly event and gain status as a world championship in the future.
