More Youth Clashes with Malmö Police

Published fredag 20 mars 2009 kl 12.41

There have been more clashes between fire-starting youngsters and the police in the notorious Rosengård suburb of Sweden’s southern city of Malmö.

Youngsters in this immigrant and refugee-rich suburb have been pelting police, fire fighters and refuse collectors with stones, eggs and garbage.

Local politicians describe the new clashes as revenge for the police’s identifying those involved in earlier conflicts and detaining the suspects.

Critics blame the violence on the poor housing conditions, overcrowding an high unemployment in the area - and the failure in integrating darker-skinned new-comers into the Swedish labor market and society at large.
