Sweden to Inquire About Korea Incident

Published måndag 23 mars 2009 kl 10.39
North Korean border guard

The Swedish embassy in Pyongyang has been asked by the United States to gather information on the fate of two American journalists who were arrested by North Korean border guards last Tuesday. The two women had been filming near the river Tumen when they were detained.

So far it has not been determined whether they had crossed the border into North Korea or whether they were abducted from South Korean territory. Since the USA has no diplomatic relations with communist North Korea Sweden acts as a mediator, safeguarding American interests.
