Almost extinct, now back again - tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is once again on the rise in Sweden. Health authorities reported more than 500 new cases of the highly infectious lung disease nationwide last year.

That was an increase by 13 percent compared to the year before, making it the fifth year in a row with rising case numbers. At the turn of the century TB had been almost extinct in Sweden. Authorities point out that in more than 80 percent of the new cases the patients are immigrants, many of them from Somalia.
