Longer Welfare Lines Create Problems
Many Swedish municipalities are facing problems with the rising number of unemployed. In most areas local budgets were passed before the worldwide financial crisis and its grave consequences had occurred.
Thus, the authorities are not prepared to comply with the growing number of welfare payment applications.
This month alone another 12,000 Swedes have lost their jobs so far, five times as many as in all of March of last year.
Meanwhile financial analysts do not rule out an increase of the country’s unemployment rate up to ten percent later this year.
