Swedish Newspaper Campaign For Isaak
Sweden’s four largest newspapers have joined forces in a campaign to free the Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak.
On Friday the editors of Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet and Expressen displayed their support for Isaak by acknowledging his fate with big spreads, petitions for his immediate release and especially made campaign sites.
Isaak has been in jail in Eritrea since 2001 when the Eritrean government closed down the independent newspapers. Despite diplomatic efforts by the Swedish Foreign Office, Eritrea will not release him. On Friday he has been imprisoned for 2742 days. So far, Isaak has not been charged with any crime, neither has he been told what he stands accused of.
