Chicken Recalled After Further Glass Finds

Published fredag 27 mars 2009 kl 17.28
Chicken recalled from shops

The Swedish company Guldfågeln AB has been forced to call back 1000 tons of Kronfågel frozen chicken from supermarkets. The reason for the recall is that glass has been found in their chicken products in many places across the country.

The last few weeks have left the company flabbergasted as the reports of glass kept coming in. After 4 new reports on Friday alone, the company took the decision to recall all their frozen products.

“We are facing a very serious situation but are now hoping to have the time to solve the problem. There is no explanation why we have been singled out,” said Jenny Fridh, head of communications at Kronfågel, to Swedish news agency TT.

The police are now investigating how the glass came to be in the chicken.

“As of yet, we have no suspicion against any particular person,” said local police officer Lars Franzell to TT.

Despite worries from chicken farmers and traders regarding the finds, Jimmy Samuelsson, CEO for Guldfågeln thinks it is unlikely that the culprit is out to jeopardize the Swedish chicken market.

“It is probably sabotage aimed at a particular company and not against the business as a whole,“ he said to TT.
