Wanja Lundby-Wedin To Remain As LO Head

At an evening press conference it was announced that the head of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO), Wanja Lundby-Wedin, is to remain in her job after receiving the support of her colleagues.

The announcement came after over seven hours of talks starting at 12noon and ending shortly before 8pm.

At the press conference Lundby-Wedin said that she would not have continued in her post if she felt she did not have the full support of her colleagues.

Lundby-Wedin left the board of pension company AMF on Sunday following an announcement by Social Democrat leader Mona Sahlin that she should leave the AMF board.

The LO head had been the subject of torrid newspaper headlines that she and the rest of the AMF board approved of large pension payments to the retiring boss of AMF.

The revelations rocked the Trade Union Confederation and the Social Democrats whose party secretary Ibrahim Baylan on Saturday directly linked a poor showing in a public opinion poll to the AMF/LO scandal
