Swedish author Stieg Larsson who tragically died at the age of 50 shortly after completing his Millennium crime series which went on to sell millions of copies worldwide, was given a posthumous award at the British book awards on Sunday night.

Larsson’s first book in his crime series, ”The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, won the crime thriller of the year award. The book, which is now a successful Swedish film, was published in English last year, four years after the author and journalist’s sudden death from a heart attack.

His father collected the trophy on his behalf. The three Millennium books which feature a crusading journalist, were written by Larsson at night while he worked as a journalist. He was never to see their success. The books have now sold over five million copies worldwide.
