Clampdown on Illegal Employment Saves Money

Published tisdag 7 april 2009 kl 14.31

Over 30 million US dollars - this is how much the Swedish public treasury has collected after cracking down on illegal employment. Following an investigation carried out by the Swedish Tax office between 2006 and 2008, as many as 272 individuals have even gone to jail.

According to the Tax Office, illegal employment is generally discovered through reports from the public leading to an investigation of the company.

In Sweden, about 70-85 % of the cases are reported in the Stockholm area and there’s often a connection to organised crime. The investigation will continue until the 31 December 2012. (rm)
