Indian IT-Experts Popular in Sweden

Published onsdag 8 april 2009 kl 17.35

IT specialists from India have been the big winners since the Swedish government changed the rules to make it easier for companies to recruit workers from outside the EU 4 months ago.

Over 700 computer experts have been granted residence permits since the change, according to the Swedish Migration Board.

A total of almost 5000 applications have been received in total, a quarter of those were for workers from India, with large numbers of applications for workers from China, Ukraine, Serbia and Russia as well.

The recent law change meant that companies themselves could decide whether to recruit qualified workers from abroad, rather than the decision being made by the Swedish Employment Service on the condition that no Swedish resident could take the job instead.
