Green Festivities for Swedes

Traditional Swedish "Påskris"- birch branches decorated with feathers

This year’s Swedish Easter seems to be going green. Feathers guaranteed not to be from live poultry, organic eggs as well as decorations made from recycled materials – many choose a more environmentally friendly approach to Easter, if you are to believe the Swedish media.

Recently much was made in the media regarding the revelation by the Swedish investigative TV programme Kalla Fakta, that a large percentage of down and feathers in Swedish pillows and duvets were gathered from live poultry.

In the wake of this, Swedish newspaper Metro reports that the retailers of festive feathers have had many queries regarding the origin of their products. Metro also advises consumers in the complicated choice of organic and free range eggs – another pertinent topic around Easter. (RM)
