Soldiers Contacted By Facebook Spies

Published lördag 18 april 2009 kl 10.49

Swedish soldiers serving abroad have been asked for classified information about their missions via the social networking site Facebook. At first the soldiers’ new Facebook friends have been asking everyday questions, for the conversations to then get more specific and include questions about their missions and their job.

The Swedish army says it doesn’t yet know if the enquiries are co-ordinated, and if so, who is behind the campaign. Mårten Wallén, head of the Military Intelligence and Security Service, tells daily Dagens Nyheter that the Army has now told soldiers to be extra careful about who they speak to on social networking sites, he adds however that no classified information has yet been leaked.
