Call for Voting by SMS

Filing taxes via SMS

The newspaper “Svenska Dagbladet” reports that the conservative Moderates want Swedes to be able to vote in the next elections in five years by SMS text messaging or over the Internet.

The suggestion comes from party secretary Per Schlingman, who says 2014 will be a super election year here, with votes not only for the EU parliament, but also for the Swedish parliament and local and county councils.

He tells the newspaper he thinks such a move would be a natural development, and would greatly increase voter turnout.

Swedes can already file their income tax returns by SMS or online, as long as they have no special deductions.
