Swedish Mission In Iraq To Re-Open
Sweden’s embassy in Iraq, which has been shut since the Gulf War 19 years ago, is to re-open according to Sweden’s ambassador to the country.
Niclas Trouvé, who is currently stationed in the Jordanian capital Amman, told SR International that the re-opening is imminent.
The decision to re-open the embassy was taken a while back, but Sweden’s Foreign Ministry decided to hold off, due to the security situation in the country, a situation which has now improved according to the ambassador.
”It was no easy decision”, he said, ”It’s taken a lot of planning and a lot of money”. He hopes that the embassy will lead to increased co-operation between the two countries.
