Swedish soldiers in Afghanistan

Once again, Swedish soldiers came under fire in Afghanistan, according to Swedish news agency TT. On Thursday evening two vehicles were hit, but according to Swedish military no one was injured.

The unit was travelling in a vehicle convoy to the west of the Swedish base in Mazar-i- Sharif when they were fired upon.  The attackers were using both small arms and recoilless rifles.

Only a week ago a Norwegian officer was killed in the area when a Taliban suicide bomber drove his car, loaded with explosives, into the Norwegian vehicle.

At present, Sweden has approximately 400 soldiers in Afghanistan, a number which is to increase to 500 within the year.  (rm)
