The Judge is Accused

Published fredag 24 april 2009 kl 18.58

A formal accusation of bias has now been levelled at the judge in the Pirate bay case. Swedish radio news revealed recently that judge Tomas Norström is a member of several associations who aim to protect companies copyright - a key aim of the pirate bay prosecution.

Now the defence lawyer has written a formal request for a re-trial, on the basis of a conflict of interest.

The four pirate bay defendents were each sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay over 3.7 million US dollars in damages when the trial ended a week ago. The new doubt over the judge’s suitability will add weight to their appeal against the verdict.
