No TV4 Air Time for Sweden Democrats

Published söndag 26 april 2009 kl 09.44

The private-owned commercial TV4 television station is barring the right-wing Sweden Democrats from airing campaign spots for the upcoming EU-parliament election. A station spokesman said that only parties represented in Sweden’s own parliament, Riksdagen, will be allowed to broadcast commercials for the EU election.

So far, three of the four coalition parties have announced that they will buy air time. Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson said he sees the station’s decision to shut out his party while accepting others as a democratic problem. (KH)
