Services Unaffected by Crisis
The Swedish service sector seems unaffected by the economic crisis. Or possibly the crisis might actually be a shot in the arm for employment in services.
Statistics Sweden says that so far this year there are 18,000 new jobs in the sector, compared to last year. And for March the trend is even stronger. The newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” reports that during March the increase in jobs in services here was 36,000, compared to the same period last year.
At the same time more than twice that many jobs disappeared in industry and construction.
According to the secretary of the Swedish government’s Globalisation Council, this may be the first sign that Sweden is seriously moving into the services economy.
