Swedish Astronaut

A Mini-frisbee in Space

Published torsdag 28 maj 2009 kl 12.57
Christer Fuglesang sets a frisbee record on his 2006 flight

When Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang returns to space in just under ten weeks, he’s taking along a banner for his favorite soccer team.

Fuglesang, Sweden’s first astronaut, first went into space on the shuttle Discovery at the end of 2006. He’s scheduled for Discovery’s upcoming mission in August.

Every astronaut gets to take a number of personal items in their Official Flight Kit. Besides a banner for the Djurgården soccer team, the items Fuglesang says he is taking include a traditional carved wooden horse from the province of Dalarna, a copy of the Nobel Peace Prize, a medal from the Royal Sweden Academy of Sciences, a handcrafted silver spoon from Sweden’s Sami indigenous people, and a mini-frisbee.
