West Sweden Applies for EU Fund

Published torsdag 4 juni 2009 kl 10.30

The Swedish government intends to apply for money from the European Union’s Globalization Fund in order to support the region of Västra Götaland, the Western region which is hard hit by the ailing auto industry. Former employees who became unemployed shall undergo new vocational educations in professions with a lack of personnel. Speaking to news agency TT, Minister for Employment Sven Otto Littorin confirmed that an accordant project will start in the autumn.

The total cost of $US 33 million will be unequally shared by the Swedish government and the European Union – with Sweden paying the larger part. Littorin did not rule out further applications to the Globalization Fund if other Swedish regions see the need of fighting increasing unemployment with EU money. (ah)
