EU election

Pirates Sunk Far-Right

Published onsdag 10 juni 2009 kl 12.51

If the Pirate Party had not stood, the far-right Sweden Democrats might now be taking up a seat in Brussels. Election analysis shows that 14% of those who voted Sweden Democrat in the national election chose the Pirate Party on Sunday's EU election.

The investigation by Swedish public television also shows that Swedish voters are becoming more positive towards the EU. Only 18% of voters said that Sweden should leave the EU, while 70% want to stay in. Only the former communist Left Party, the eurosceptic June List and the xenophobic Sweden democrats have a majority of voters who want out of the EU.
