Sweden’s Minister for Higher Education and Research Lars Leijonborg has announced he is resigning from the government.

In a press release Leijonborg writes “After more than four decades in politics and twenty election and referendum campaigns I feel it’s time for something else.” He says he won’t be a candidate for parliament in next year’s elections, so he thinks he should leave his cabinet post.

Leijonborg led the Liberal Party into the 2006 elections, but resigned as party leader the following year.
