EU meeting Jönköping

Work and Welfare at EU meeting

Published onsdag 8 juli 2009 kl 11.32
Social Security Minister Cristina Husmark Pehrsson

Learning from Denmark and what Sweden can teach Europe are on the agenda at Wednesday's EU ministers' meeting in Jönköping. It is the social and employment ministers' turn to meet in this southern town.

The Swedish Minister for Social Security, Cristina Husmark Pehrsson, says that the most important issue for her is how voluntary organisations can be involved more in social welfare in Sweden. On Wednesday she will meet representatives of several European voluntery organisations.

And Sven Otto Littorin, Minister for Employment, says that Sweden needs to learn from Denmark how to tackle youth unemployment. Sweden's is the highest in Europe, while Denmark's is one of the lowest.

He also says that Sweden has a lot to share - that many countries are interested in how Sweden manages to keep the level of strikes so low.
