Opposition: Free Swine Flu Vaccine
The city council of Nynäshamn, south of Stockholm, has promised free swine flu vaccine to all residents.
The move comes against the debate over who will bear the cost for this Fall’s mass vaccination campaign.
The Swedish government has upset county councils by refusing to allocated any extra funds to cover the mandated campaign. Some councils have indicated people will have to pay a fee for their vaccinations.
The Social Democratic opposition has called on the center-right coalition to ensure that the vaccine is free for all, saying that otherwise the campaign will fail. The Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control has confirmed just under 300 cases of swine flu in Sweden so far.
