Third Boat Not Involved in Crash
There are no signs that indicate that the third boat was involved in last week’s ferry crash in Nynäshamn, South of Stockholm.
After the Swedish Accident Investigation Board on Monday interviewed the crew on the small Finnish barge at anchor in the estuary when the ferries collided, it seems unlikely that it would have been implicated in what later happened.
Both crews were aware of the barge’s presence in the area and although it made manoeuvring trickier it was not a disturbance to the ferries.
Also, the forensic investigation has shown no signs of anything amiss with either the engines or the rudder. According to Göran Roswall, at the Accident Investigation Board, it is looking more like a question of human error.
But a full analysis on what caused the accident may take some time as the documentation of events will go on for several months.
