Entrepreneurs Lead Tourism Boom

Published onsdag 29 juli 2009 kl 16.16

While the rest of the economy has been in freefall for the past year, the tourism industry in Sweden has been growing like never before. Jobs in the sector are being created three times as fast as in other industries, and entrepreneurs are driving much of this increase, according to the authorities.

Part of this wave is a rash of new, untraditional sightseeing offers. Tourists in Stockholm can walk on the tops of buildings, for example, or explore the Old Town with a Viking as a guide. Nature tours have also jumped in popularity, all at the hands of new entrepreneurs.

One of these is "Stockholm Outback", where adventurous tourists get to leave the city centre and discover moose, deer and rabbits in the great outdoors, just 25 mins from Stockholm Central train station.
